Why Some of Us Invest in Real Estate Instead of the Stock Market

 

ElivsI was watching one of those educational investor shows on CNBC the other night when a successful [tag-tec]stock market[/tag-tec] investor proclaimed that real estate investors are a little on the dumb side.

 

I think the point he was trying to make was if we were smart we’d be in the [tag-ice]stock[/tag-ice] market where all the other smart people are.

 

Of course, I got mad.  Still am.

 

But who cares?  Money is money. 

 

So what if real estate is easier to understand? 

 

Why must it be so complicated?

 

The [tag-self]stock market[/tag-self] can go down, even though it is flying pretty high right now. 

 

Yeah, I know.  Real estate can go down too. But not by much. 

 

Even if our properties are devalued as much as ten percent they will come back.

 

Can we say the same for many stocks?

 

Here’s an article that explains one of the reasons why I have opted to put my money in dirt and ground and houses instead of stock certificates. 

 

It quotes “a legendary value investor Jeremy Grantham” who thinks stocks are about to enter some sort of perfect storm scenario.
